Anafiotika, the hidden neighbourhood of Athens
Just underneath the famous Akropolis of Athens, lies Anafiotika, the hidden neighbourhood of Athens. It is truly a picturesque maze that reminds more of a village in Santorini than of Athens! That is because this settlement was founded by people from the island of Anafi, nearby Santorini. Therefore it is called ‘Áanafi-otika’ and has the same style of houses as Santorini. You can wander around there for a long long time before you have discovered all the little streets!
It is unbelievable but there are still little tourists there, even though Anafiotika is located just above the very busy Plaka area. Bonus: at some points the view over Athens is amazing too!
